"We've found that holding hands with someone of the same sex generates feelings ranging from curiosity to outright hostility, which shows that the UK has still some way to go in changing general attitudes despite having achieved so much politically for same-sex couples. Holding hands shows the rest of the world what we mean to each other but, more importantly, it lets us demonstrate the security and closeness that comes with being committed to each other. We want to be able to show these feelings without fear, in the same way that opposite-sex couples do every day. Our morning of doing the photo-shoot for A Day In Hand was relaxed and happy because we had the freedom to demonstrate this, and we hope that same-sex couples everywhere will come to have that freedom wherever they go."
