"I'm glad you could use the pic. I've seen several more couples around here....I don't have any details about the guys in the pic I sent you. I just stopped them and asked if I could take their picture and asked their permission for its use in any type of project that it might end up in. They agreed, said it sounded great, and were on their way.
The constant hassle and danger surrounding same-sex hand holding and affection has long been a main point of contention regarding our inequality. I think that visibility of diverse couples (not just in major cities and ghettos) is one of the few ways that we will ever be able to truly have equality. I live downtown Vancouver, arguably one of the most gay-positive cities, in one of the few and first countries to legalise same-sex marriages and it is still really unsafe to hold hands. There have been numerous attacks just in the last year, even in the "village". Often I think I'd rather give up the right to marry if it meant that I could just hold my partner's hand or give him a kiss, without worrying about being attacked."
