40th year anniversary of Stonewall riots 28 Jun 2009 40 years on and Lesbian, Gay, Bi & Trans rights are making waves across the world. But how many same-sex couples do you see holding hands in New York, the original location of the famous riots, in 2009? Here are the pics of the few couples we managed to catch. We have a long way to go before hand holding reaches the awe inspiring movement that described the days following Stonewall below,

"The next night a crowd of 2,000 protesters gathered, and by early evening the scene outside the battered Stonewall was akin to a carnival or street party: “handholding and kissing became endemic; cheerleaders led the crowd in shouts of ‘Gay Power’"
