Claire Nathan's Photoshoot 02 May 2009 Claire Nathan fantastically brings alive the campaign with her wonderful photographs around North West London. On 25th April, A Day In Hand  had its third photoshoot: "Photoshoot 3: Return of the Hand". Most excitingly we went down to Abbey Road to get a shot I had been wanting since the start of the campaign. Magically, the sun came out and we were holding hands back in the 60's with The Beatles. Claire had even been careful to get the exact set-up for the famous shot. We went on to shoot around St. John's Wood, Camden and Primrose Hill. On our way, we snapped straight folks who wanted to get involved. You can see more of these photos in the Your Stories section, London.

Here's what Claire had to say about the campaign:

"When I was asked if I would take photographs for A Day In Hand, I felt honoured.  As a straight woman, I have to admit that I hadn’t really considered what it would feel like, not to be able to hold hands with my husband in public.  To me, holding hands is the most natural of acts and is a human right.  It makes me feel connected, loved and I wouldn’t be surprised if it sets off a positive chemical reaction in the body or brain.

When I heard about the campaign, I started to think about the people whose photos I would be taking.   I tried to imagine how I might feel if I had to walk in their shoes, not having the luxury (as I now see it) of holding hands with their loved ones, without the fear of discrimination.  And I have to say I felt quite nervous and protective of those taking part.  Interestingly however, the reception we received from the public, was resoundingly positive and David managed to encourage quite a few members of the public to support the campaign.  David’s energy and drive was infectious, and as well as a lot of warmth and fun on the day, I also felt a sense of great courage by all those taking part.

So thank you and I wish you the best of luck with the campaign." Claire Nathan, May 2009
