Great London Same-Sex Hand Holding Relay 27 Jul 2009 To coincide with the 3 year run up to London 2012 Olympic Games, A Day In Hand was officially part of the Open Weekend 24th-26th July 2009.

On 25th July 2009, 12 couples took part in the first ever same-sex hand holding relay across London. Click on the routes below to go to that route and read about the experiences of the hand holders plus videos and pictures. For a round up of the event click on the later link below.

Why?
We wanted to track the course of one same-sex hand hold, in public and narrate the journey of this simple act of affection. Who did we meet along the way? What were the reactions? Did the world fall in on us? Or were we inspired by the positive reactions...or even lack of reaction....of seeing 2 men or 2 women holding hands.

How?
The course was broken into routes, and at each transition the hand hold was passed to another couple. Over the next few days stories, videos and pics of each route will come online.
