Here we were! At the last leg of our relay. We spied Jenny and Laura through the windows of the Rose and Crown. Had they any idea what had gone before, how far we had come, how much we experienced? Even so they were glad to finish the relay (although James, Kat and Jo from Routes 9 and 10 were still with us). We walked to Greenwich Park where I asked the pair what they thought of hand holding.

"Initially Jenny found out about A Day in Hand through the Lewisham volunteer centre. She mentioned it to me that evening and we discussed and thought it would be something very worth while for us to part take in. Being a "feminine" couple we feel we are judged as much as "butch" or "tomboy" couple are - but judged in different ways. Feeling we are not taken seriously as a couple sometimes, we felt this was a good day to be a part of."

"Initially on the day of the walk we were a little nervous because we didn't know what to expect. When we started the walk our nerves left and we felt in good spirits because we felt part of something very special - changing how London views gay people walking hand in hand."

Above: Walking up to the observatory. Very steep! We took a short cut.

"We walked with pride and our heads held high. Even though we were surrounded by a park full of people, we did not experience any adverse reactions. When we do walk hand in hand in public we often see people doing a double take at us or the odd leery comment from straight men. Of course we always gauge our vacinity as to whether or not we feel safe holding hands or not, but generally we do it often."

"Our walk for A Day in Hand through Greenwich Park was a good experience and never once felt threatened or unsafe. It is definately something we would do again and hopefully this little step that we all took collectively will be a big step for the LGBT comunity in gaining visibility within our comunities.

Thanks David for organising such a good day/event. We will definately be back for others in the future."

The hand hold is finally broken.

We did it!
