James said, "Walking down Oxford Street holding hands isn't out of the ordinary for us. We tend to hold hands wherever we are and don't really think about it. We do notice when someone looks but it's almost like we're providing a public service by making it part of everyday normal life - showing people that being gay isn't all about sex, gay people have relationships just like anyone else."

"There are places we wouldn't hold hands and you have to judge each situation for itself. It's a sad reflection on the world today that you still have to be careful in some places, but I think that is about more than just homophobia - there are parts of London I wouldn't walk through at all, let alone holding my boyfriend's hand."

During part of James and Andy’s section from Oxford Circus to Tottenham Court Road, we hung back a bit and watched for reactions of people as after they had walked past. One man and woman looked round, smiled, and said something to each other, but we didn’t hear whether their comments were positive or negative. One man said ‘look at the queers’ to his friends, but they didn't react.
