Saturday 25th July 2009.
Nick and Alistair are good friends. Alistair is a trans man that works for Youth @ Pride, and I met him at the Mayor's Pride reception where I er...recruited him for the relay. We were running early so I decided to deviate slightly from the route, and we cut up through Old Compton Street, off Charing Cross Road. Surely, this was Ground Zero for same-sex hand holding...? But we were soon to discover, that even in an area of the UK with the highest concentration of gay establishments, lesbian and gay love remains underground. Number of same-sex hand holders spotted on Old Compton Street on a lovely sunny Saturday in out and proud London, 2009 =

Above: The only same-sex couple we saw holding hands on Old Compton Street today. These guys look familiar...wait...we accosted them way back in March 2009, holding hands, whilst doing research for the campaign. It seems that it is the same couples willing to hold hands in Soho, again and again.
Are we really so few and far between?
